🎾 Just a Thought…

“If a child is poor in math but good at tennis, most people would hire a math tutor.

I would rather hire a tennis coach.”

Deepak Chopra (azquotes.com)

This quote reminds us to focus on nurturing our strengths.

☀️ Market Day Magic: Set Up Your Stand Today!

Last Sunday was a sunny day—perfect for setting up your own market stand.

Spring has just begun, and it's the ideal time to make the most of the upcoming months by regularly going out and selling. The simpler your setup, the easier it will be to head out often. Even a few hours during the day can be awesome—the key is to keep it going!

Simple Tips That Won’t Cost You a $ (But Make a Big Impact)

  • 📍 Location: Place your table where people naturally walk by. Setting up my table in a touristy spot in San Francisco has been fun—it's exciting to see where everyone comes from! Choosing a location with high foot traffic means I don't need to promote my pop-up in advance—people naturally stop by.

  • 🪑 Two Tables? Make it easy for them to stop and check out your stuff. Arrange your tables so customers can browse without stepping into your space. This makes it more inviting and less intimidating.

A setup that's easy to stop at.

  • 💲 Clear Pricing: Label everything. Some people are too shy to ask, and will just leave.

  • 🎨 Eye-Catching Display: Arrange your items neatly. My sister and I sometimes debate the setup, but we always find a compromise!

  • 😊 Friendly Vibes: Smile and say hi to passersby. Obvious? Sure, but it makes a such BIG difference!

  • 📖 Tell a Tale: Share a fun story about your products. People love it.

  • 💳 Payment Ready: Have your Venmo QR code or another digital payment method ready (sometimes, printed on a paper doesn’t work!). Many people don't carry cash.

  • 📱 Stay Connected: Display your Instagram handle and have a newsletter sign-up sheet. We always suggest this—because if you're trying to grow your community, these things matter. Markets are awesome, but they’re just the start. Your online presence helps people stay with you long after the day is over.

🍑Farmers Market Outlaw: The California Story with a Juicy Twist

Living in California, we assumed farmers markets were just part of the lifestyle—but it turns out they were basically banned until the late ’70s! Back then, strict rules made it nearly impossible for small farmers to sell directly to people… until a juicy peach protest flipped the script.

(And if you like quirky deep dives like this, this article on the wild and wonderful world of farmers markets is worth the read!)

🆕 What’s New at SoliaVenture?

We’ve been diving into how to write a great newsletter—and it’s been keeping us busy! We’re currently taking Matt’s class, and it’s full of real tips and examples we’ve already started trying.

We’ll share more about our journey in the next edition, but here’s one first thought we really liked—and that you can apply to way more than just newsletters:

Your first newsletter will probably look very different from your tenth—and that’s totally okay. Matt said it best: don’t be a perfectionist. The more you write, the better it gets.

And here’s something we’re already noticing—when you write about something you actually care about, it just flows. It’s not a school essay. It’s yours.

P.S. If you’re curious—or thinking of starting your own—check out Matt's free newsletter. It’s been really helpful for us!
